Walking around Vieux Nice, I found myself noting with interest its many walls covered with fly posters. Layers of peeling posters formed unusual patterns and shapes. Seeing collage paintings with similar characteristics by members of the Nice school in the city’s Musee d’Art Contemporian stimulated me to actually photograph these fly posters. These, in turn, led to a wider study of the city’s textural wall and road surfaces. Set edge to edge some make distinctive and intriguing compositions.
